Therapy-Talk Counselling Method

Counselling Method

Therapy-Talk objective is to enhance a sense of self-worth and increase awareness by creating the right conditions to promote personal development. We offer online and telephone counselling based on a short-term model, working with the client to identify and resolve concerns. The average is between 6-12 sessions, once a week. Your counsellor can help assess the amount of support you need.

Our counsellors use brief work in counselling, a solution focused method of work applied to the Person Centred or Transpersonal approach, depending on the therapist's training.

Person Centred Therapy

Person centred therapy empowers individuals to develop their potential. It addresses the search for meaning, personal growth, human potential and personal responsibility. The aim is to help individuals recognise their power, creativity and the choice they have at any moment.

At the core of person centred counselling is the belief that people have the ability to find their own solutions, if they have the necessary conditions to promote growth. To facilitate this the person centred therapist does not only use techniques but also relies on her/his personal qualities to develop a non-judgmental, congruent and empathic relationship.

The person centred approach considers that being valued as a person and understood, without being judged, can help an individual to develop and accept who they are. Therefore, the therapeutic work involves creating a personal connection with the client in a relationship of trust and acceptance, to improve their sense of worth, awareness and to generate significant development.

Transpersonal Therapy

The transpersonal approach to therapy and counselling, in common with other orientations, addresses the primary concerns and issues of personal life.  The aim is the recognition and interruption of deeper processes in order to free the individual from neurotic and compulsive living. It facilitates the promoting of a more authentic and harmonious co-existence.

In addition, it makes explicit the fact that each individual holds sovereign responsibility over the quality of their life and consequently over the choices that consciously or unconsciously they face and follow. This recognition and acceptance of the contribution each person makes towards creating their experience is empowering. The scope for intentional changes and outcomes becomes evident as the individual uncovers their established patterns of behaviour and interacts more consciously.

A significant characteristic of the transpersonal perspective is the option for a shift from an excessive preoccupation with, and focus on, personal concerns, needs and interests, to a bigger perspective on life. It is acknowledged that anyone can step beyond their small and immediate personal story by connecting with other people's lives, considering more global trends, being touched by the accelerating change and the implications of evolution.

The expansion of human identification beyond the confines of exclusively Ego concerns is encouraged within the transpersonal approach also through the acknowledgment that there is a mystery to human life. People's attempts to engage with this mystery and make sense of it through spiritual, metaphysical and other cosmo theories are affirmed and the initiative of the clients to create meaning and purpose for their lives is respected.
